What is NextPick?

NextPick is the fastest-growing college tennis recruiting platform that has transformed how athletes find their perfect college fit. We revolutionize the way college coaches, recruiting agents, and prospective athletes connect, making the recruiting process more efficient, effective, and successful for everyone involved.

NextPick is trusted and used by over 600 college tennis coaches from all levels, including JUCO, Ivy League, ACC, SEC, and Big 12. Hundreds of recruiting agents also rely on our platform for placing athletes.

How does NextPick compare to other solutions?

In short, athletes who use NextPick get better offers from better schools, allowing them to reach their full potential effortlessly. We do this by matching you with a dedicated recruiting agent who is an expert in this field (former college coach and/or ATP/WTA player). On top of their personal network, NextPick recruiting agents leverage our network of over 600 college coaches who actively use our platform to recruit, combining tech with human expertise for superior results.

Here are how other recruiting approaches compare:

‍1. Cold Emailing Tools/"Do-It-Yourself" Platforms (i.e. NCSA):‍ These platforms are widely known but also the least effective. College coaches don't actively use these services - instead, these platforms heavily rely on cold emailing systems combined with often outdated contact databases. College coaches get bombarded with emails from irrelevant prospects (think 100+ per day), leading them to ignore messages from unknowns. The entry cost is usually low, but aggressive sales tactics often push parents to upgrade to premium features, costing thousands per year. Parents and athletes typically waste a lot of time and money without seeing meaningful recruiting results.‍

‍2. Large Agencies: Large agencies usually have a high placement rate but often prioritize placing athletes quickly, regardless of fit, to handle their high overhead. This approach can lead to mismatches and dissatisfaction. Experienced agents often part ways with these agencies to work independently, leaving less experienced agents behind.‍

‍3. Showcases/ID Camps/Exposure Camps:‍ These events are marketed as opportunities to play in front of college coaches, but the reality often falls short. They're expensive—typically $200-1,500 for registration alone, plus travel and lodging costs that can easily exceed $1,000 per event. Many showcases are primarily money-making ventures where coaches are sometimes paid to attend or give lessons rather than actively recruit. With over 1,000 college tennis programs nationwide, playing in front of just 5-10 coaches presents extremely low odds that programs matching your academic and athletic profile will even be present. While some showcases are more useful than others, most end up being costly investments with minimal to inexistent recruiting returns. Your money is better spent on a recruiting agent who can connect you directly with the right programs at the right time—eliminating the need to attend these expensive events altogether.

‍4. Freelance Experts/Micro Agencies:‍ This is where the best recruiting agents are found. These passionate experts, usually former college coaches, have strong knowledge, extensive networks, and significant experience placing athletes. They typically take on only a few clients a year, often through word of mouth, and provide the highest quality service and the most value. However, finding these experts on your own can be challenging and often a roll of the dice. It's risky because there's no way to verify their track record, quality, or effectiveness before you sign their contract - with no accountability structure in place if things don't work out. You're essentially making a significant financial investment based on little more than their personal claims of success.

NextPick eliminates this risk by making the top 5% of these expert agents accessible to everyone. We've already done the vetting for you. Our recruiting agents are carefully selected based on proven success records and professional experience. Beyond their personal networks, you benefit from NextPick's extensive network of hundreds of college coaches actively using our platform. We also provide something independent agents can't: oversight and accountability. We regularly check in with both parents and recruiting agents to ensure the recruiting process is progressing as planned, giving you peace of mind throughout your college recruitment journey.

Who will be helping me?

After your initial free consultation, we will match you with a recruiting agent who aligns with your objectives, preferences, and athletic profile. Different recruiting agents have different approaches and areas of specialization, so it’s important to find the right person who can achieve the best results for you.

We have found that we are able to provide a successful match most of the time; however, if you feel like your matched recruiting agent isn’t a good fit for you, we will match you with a different recruiting agent.

Who are the recruiting agents?

We only work with the top 5% of recruiting agents. These professionals are passionate experts, often former college coaches, who possess extensive knowledge, an unparalleled network, and significant experience in placing athletes. Because they take on only a few clients each year, they can provide personalized, high-quality service to each athlete.

Our recruiting agents undergo a rigorous vetting process, and must have relevant experience, a proven track record placing athletes, and name recognition in the field. With NextPick, you gain access to the best of the best.

What does a recruiting agent do?

Think of a recruiting agent as a combination of a college counselor and a sports agent. Like a college counselor, recruiting agents guide athletes in reaching their full academic potential. Similar to a sports agent, they help athletes reach their full athletic potential and maximize their financial opportunities.

When parents see a young athlete getting recruited, what we see is hundreds of hours of work behind the scenes with their recruiting agents. These hours are spent with the athlete, parents, personal coaches, college coaches, admission offices, and more. Recruiting agents spend countless hours educating, strategizing, researching, negotiating, and communicating with coaches.

Each athlete and scenario is unique, and different recruiting agents have different approaches. However, there are four broad areas recruiting agents will guide you through:
1. Assessment: Analyzing the situation and building a realistic recruiting plan.
2. Optimization: Enhancing the athlete's profile to maximize appeal to college coaches.
3. Communication: Getting the athlete in front of the right coaches at the right time.
4. Commitment: Assisting in making a life-changing decision.

The athletic college recruiting process is extremely time-consuming and requires the proper experience, knowledge, and network. But don't worry, our experts have a proven track record of navigating this complex and daunting process successfully.

How are the recruiting agents vetted?

We only select the top 5% of recruiting agents. Here is how we do it:

The NextPick platform is used by hundreds of college coaches and recruiting agents, giving us unique insights into the industry and allowing us to identify the best-performing individuals.

Each potential recruiting agent’s application is thoroughly reviewed by our team. We assess the length and quality of their experience, their track record in placing athletes, their recommendations from college coaches and past clients, their their professional network, and name recognition. Additionally, each candidate participates in a video interview to evaluate their specific skills and core competencies. This process helps us understand each recruiting agent’s areas of expertise, ensuring we can match them with the right athletes based on their needs.

As a result of this rigorous process, less than 5% of recruiting agents who use our platform are vetted as NextPick experts.

We also provide full information on each recruiting agent, making it easy for you to conduct your own due diligence on your paired recruiting agent.

Is it too early/too late to get a recruiting agent?

It's never too early to book a free consultation and learn more about potential college tennis pathways. This exploratory conversation helps you understand what's possible without any commitment.
‍
Ideally, you should hire a recruiting agent as soon as you're confident that college tennis is the right path for you. This gives you the maximum time to explore all possible options.
‍
It's also never too late to get a recruiting agent. College coaches sometimes need to fill roster spots until the last minute, and our experienced agents know where these late opportunities exist. While earlier is certainly better and opens more doors, we've helped many athletes find excellent college fit even late in their senior year.
‍
Whatever your timeline, take the first step by answering these few questions so you can get matched to the right recruiting expert who can help you clarify your options and make informed decisions about your tennis future.

Do I need to be a nationally ranked player to get a NextPick agent?

Not at all. While we work with nationally ranked players, our recruiting agents successfully place athletes of all levels—from those competing for Division I scholarships and NIL money to players better suited for Division II, III, NAIA, or JUCO programs. Our extensive network spans all competitive levels, allowing our experts to find the right fit regardless of your current ranking.
